Sorry I have been slacking

I tried to get out of San Antonio quickly because I had an appointment with the cardiologist.  I didn’t get to load the kayak as I ran out of time so no adventure really this weekend.

As I was traveling up Mo-PAC north to drop Sniff off at Mom’s, there was a wreck on southbound Mo-PAC backed up before the river to 45th St!!!  I knew I was not going to make it to my appointment in time so I called when I got to Mom’s.  Those %^$#& are charging me $75 for a missed appointment!!!!  I was freakin’ livid.  They will hear more from me about it when I go back on 8/7.  There’s nothing like the Bales’ temper – I’ve got some Daddy in me.

Then I had to go through this assessment with a nurse and Mom for this insurance company.  It took almost an hour and a half and was a total pain in the you know what.  At least the nurse kind of pinned her down on the driving.  I’m not sure it will be enough but it felt like progress was made.

Jane and Garland came into town and took me to see the musical “Love, Janis.”  It was phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The lead sounded just like Janis Joplin.  I am going to try to see it again before it closes.  My second cousin, Matt (Jane and Garland’s grandson) is VERY talented with the sax and music in general.  He got to play with the band on stage – very exciting!  He had a great solo and many people got up and danced at the end.  It is the best musical I have seen in a long time.  Of course, that could be because I aspired to be Janis (without the early death) from the time I was seventeen.  Love.  Her.   Music.  But such a tortured soul.  :(   Mom said she got to see Janis and Kenneth Threadgill at the Split Rail in Austin – LUCKY!

That’s all for now.  I need to start taking my camera around again – oh, wait, I may have some pics from when Uncle Bill was here last weekend.  I’ll have to look.

Love,

Stacy

Went much better than expected.  Having Emaly there was a godsend – she is so down to earth and firm when she needs to be.  Mom was receptive.  We are going to move her furniture to make it more walker-friendly.  I think having her contemporaries there really made a difference.  On the whole I am very pleased.

Bess Bistro

Filed under: Uncategorized — wimmin @ 2:48 am

We had a wonderful meal tonight at Bess Bistro – this is Sandra Bullock’s mom’s restaurant.  Delicious, great ambiance, but pricey.

My uncle Bill flew into town from NYC today to help me with the trust (signing a bunch of papers, going over portfolios, etc.)  We got most of it done today but it was exhausting.  I was grateful for the “cool front” of 92 degrees.

Tomorrow, Bill, Emaly (mom’s best friend from grade school), David and I are confronting mom about getting realistic about the path we are headed down.  She has been in such a good mood today that we are all feeling reluctant about doing it, but it has to be done.  I hope she will take it in the spirit in which it is intended –love–but somehow I doubt it.

We also visited an assisted living place near David but it was so depressing that I wanted to cry.  All of the residents in wheelchairs, etc. and they wanted $5500/month for it!  Crazy!

I found Cabaret, the DVD, for $5.99.  We watched it tonight.  Although it was good, the stage production was far better.  But it was enjoyable.

Signing off to try to get some sleep.  It’s 2:45 and I keep waking up!  Argh! Love to my readers.  I hope to have some more adventure tales next weekend!  I’m due!

I got bad news from the doctor. They think I’m diabetic. I won’t know for sure until they do this three-hour test in September. It certainly does make one face her mortality so soon before her birthday. I am trying to eat right, applying the principles I used to quit drinking and smoking, but it is so hard. It’s not like you can just abstain from eating, like the other stuff. I am sure I will prevail though, one day at a time. Carpe diem, baby! Just wish I could sleep.

July 4th

Went to Town Lake with Lisa’s family and some of their friends.  We watched the fireworks from the water and it was spectacular!!  I really wish I hadn’t forgotten my camera.  Grrr.  But I did find a new place to launch that is much easier than where I was going.  Happy 4th everyone!
